Radical Stewardship: Empowered to Make a Difference

Stewardship Appeal Exceeds Dollar and Simply Giving Goals!

Congratulations, Lake Park members! You have pledged approximately $215,000 to support the operating budget of Lake Park for 2010. Not only does this exceed our $212,000 goal, but this record pledge total exceeds last year’s pledges by almost $30,000! Your thoughtfulness in pledging will allow our 2010 budget to be the best grounded in recent memory. Those givers using Simply Giving to automate their monthly giving have increased from 32 to 43, exceeding our goal of 40.

The opportunity to pledge is still there — we would need 18 more pledges and 46 more time & talent forms to achieve our goal of receiving these from half of Lake Park households. So, even if you have not gotten around to returning your pledge and time & talent forms, we could still use them.

As we will discuss at the Annual Meeting on January 31, we finished 2009 within budget, though at a negative $14,000. Some strong contributions at the end of the year helped get within budget, though our giving from members finished well below the budgeted figure of $230,000 (which had actual pledges of $186,000 behind it). The budget proposed for 2010 includes $240,000 budgeted giving from members — a much better grounded figure, being based on actual pledges of $215,000. The 2010 proposed budget again includes a deficit, but one that Council believes is manageable and reasonable under the circumstances. When reviewing that budget, know that your strong pledging helped Council greatly to know that budgeted giving from members will actually be there. Thanks again!

What does my offering each week really do? Why do we give to the church?
Why does it matter that I give anything back to God?

November 15th Section 3 of 3

When God commanded Adam to care for the whole of creation in Genesis, God sought a steward to care and tend the gifts God gave humankind. We, having received everything from God, are also commanded to be stewards of all that God has given us!
Throughout November, you’ll encounter many opportunities to learn what it means to be a Radical Steward! It’s about more than just giving your weekly offering to church. Being a radical steward involves taking time to re-evaluate the gifts God has given us, repent of the selfish ways we haven’t cared for the world around us, financially and otherwise, and take the faithful risk of discerning how to worship God with our financial resources. It may not be easy, but we hope you’ll find that as you steward radically, you might find yourself more deeply spiritually connected to God and less aware of the strain in your pocketbook.
As we give thanks for all we receive, we also find ourselves radically empowered to make a difference—in how we, as church, live, worship, welcome, support, and serve our greater community and world. We empower you to take time to reflect on how you might become a more radical steward! You should now have a pledge brochure and a time and talent form.  Please prayerfully consider making a pledge of your finances, time and your talents.  Everyone is encouraged to turn in pledges on Commitment Sunday, November 22nd during the 8 and 10 worship services.
